So Here’s What Happened…

Personal stories about travel and adventure

We provide a little break from the stressful news to deliver personal stories of travel and adventures. Real people, real stories, delivered to your inbox.

Tell me more…

Since we are all avoiding travel right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, let’s gather around the virtual campfire and tell each other some tales of travel and adventure.

In the age of social media, we scroll past countless trip photos, but rarely get the same storytelling experience we might in catching up with a friend in real life. You remember, when your friend actually verbally told you a story about her recent trip, in person—complete with the body language, voice inflections, and hand gesturing? It’s those stories, not curated and enhanced photos, that make travel truly memorable.

This project is a simple attempt to share those types of stories while we’re staying at home—preferably via video, but also in audio and written word formats, too.

The concept is simple. Sign up for the email list. Submit a story or two—I know you have one can share. I will compile them regularly and send out an email to the list, and we can all enjoy them as a respite from the day’s stress. Easy peasy.

Why should I participate?

Because you have a great story to tell, that’s why!

It might be something funny that happened on that trip to Thailand. Or that comedy of errors that was your road trip to DisneyWorld. Or the type 2 fun backpacking trip last summer. Or the heartwarming trip where you fell in love with your sweetheart. Or the trip that totally changed the way you view something. Whatever it is, if it’s worth sharing with your friends, it’s worth sharing with us.

If you’ve traveled, I know you have some of these stories. Time to tell us about it!

How to subscribe to receive the stories

How to submit a story

It’s easier than you think. Just record a video of yourself telling the story and fill out our submission form.

Video stories are best because they convey so much more than audio or text—we can see your facial expressions, your gesturing, and the other important signals that make your story so much richer and fun to watch.

That said, if you’re just not willing to record a short video story, we’ll also sprinkle in some audio stories, too. But really, video is best and what we’re hoping to feature the most of.

Video Requirements:

  • Keep it between 2-8 minutes in length.

  • Keep the camera steady and record in a quiet place. Use a dedicated microphone or headset if needed.

  • Tell us your name or social media handle, but keep it short (don’t worry, we’ll link to you in the email)

  • Be yourself and don’t worry about heavily editing it; this is just like telling your friend about your latest trip over drinks or a campfire. If you mispronounce something or stutter or something, just keep going. Nobody cares.

  • Either upload your video using our form, or post on your own youtube or vimeo account and send us the link. Oh, and skip the ads, please.

Audio Requirements:

  • First reconsider why you aren’t just doing a video instead! 😝

  • Keep it between 2-8 minutes in length.

  • Please use a dedicated microphone or headset and test the audio before record. Listening (without visuals) to bad audio is rough.

  • Please upload your audio file using our form, or post on soundcloud and send us the link. Again, no ads please.

If you’re nervous…

Don’t be! No really, this is a judgement-free zone. We’re all here to support each other, and we won’t tolerate insults in the comments. Still nervous? Here are some storytelling tips.

But really: just be yourself and tell us your travel story. It’s simpler than you think.
